Endeavoring To Walk With God

I am not a practiced writer of scripture. I claim no special talent to putting Gods word to prose. All I am attempting to do here is make a couple points, and I am quite sure I will make a mess of even that attempt, but please bear with me. Constructive criticism is welcome, and feel free to leave a comment if you have one. But be nice.

I changed the title of this blog from "to walk with God," because I am not in so great a position on my own to instruct others on this journey...at least not in deep matters of theology, and yet we all can offer encouragement and instruction through God's word 2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV) . So it behooves us all to meditate on, or study His word, as Proverbs 3 tells us that "joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding."

There is so much to learn through God's word that it will literally take our life time to glean all we can from it. And I would venture to say that we will all go to our glory with questions unanswered, and spiritual goals not attained. Does this mean that we are displeasing to God if all that is not realized? I say no, not in the least. The bible took thousands of years to conclude. And it has been two thousand years since it's completion. Men and women considered to be theological geniuses have been trying to answer biblical questions for much of that time. And without the help of the Holy Spirit, The Great Counselor, their efforts would not have met with nearly the success that has been made.

You may be sitting there asking yourself, "Well then, why bother?" One answer would be because God himself commands us to in Deuteronomy 26 (NIV);

"The LORD
your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul." (emphasis is mine)

God is pleased through our obedience to him, as David points out in his 51st Psalm, verses 16-17.

“You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it. You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”

And the great Prophet Samuel asked a failing King;

“Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

What have I shown here? That I can instruct after all? Absolutely NOT! The Word of God instructs, teaches, corrects, and rebukes. A godly man or woman can use the Word to do all those things "in God's name." I know, because I have been on the receiving end of it more than once, and recently too.

God used a Donkey to rebuke Balaam in Numbers 22: 28. He uses any and all, according to His will, that would seek His face (Psalm 105:4).
